Money lost on a house

We each had our own house. We bought a 3rd house where we were going to rebuild and add on.The house was purchased in just my name.We thought it would be easier. When we got married we would add her name to the deed.We got married, didn't make a year and we split. With the Real Estate market crash, the house will sell for $60,00 less than what I paid.Is my wife responsible for some of this money or am I still going to have to eat the loss.We are in NY

She doesn't feel any responsibility towards the house.I should have bought it with her name also on the deed.Everyone knows it was for the both oof us.Even   the architect plans have both our names on the plans. So gets off and I have to eat the.loss

You have two choices. One is take the loss. the other is attempt to prove the existence of an oral contract.

Most people want the house and will try to do anything to get it as seperate property of the estate. It sounds like you have the house as your seperate property since it was purchased in your name, before the marriage. How do you know the current value of the house, did you get it appraised recently? Does she know what the house is worth? Does she have any contribution to the house? Would need more information bushwacked. Right now it sounds like its your house and you very well might have to eat the loss. If you have 3 homes between you both, I would definately be hiring an attorney, maybe even a real estate/family law attorney.(that's what I hired)
