I want to be happy

I've been married 18 years & have 4 kids, My husband is an emotional & verbal abuser, & is a recovering alcoholic as of the last 2 years.... i'm to the point of fileing for a legal seperation. He seems to think I'm not going to go through with it seeing I've said it so many time's .We've been to counciling & he quit going..People always say stay in it for the kids but I think it's doing damage to them.People don't always know what goes on behind closed doors.I just want someone to appreciate me for me.

the secret life of an alcoholic's spouse is hell on earth. all the fear,mistrust and resentments. if your husband is not drinking then he can no longer hide behind alcohol to excuse his behavior(nor should you). ask yourself: is this as good as it's gonna get? if that answer is yes and you want something better than you have your answer. good luck.

You deserve to be happy. I agree stay or go the kids will have issues. YOU need to be happy, secure in yourself and where you are going in your life. No person deserves to be belittled or emotionally abused. Call the abuse hotline and join a support group. Talking with others who can understand some of the same problems you have faced can be very empowering. Just knowing you are not alone is wonderful. My prayers are with you and your children.

The only bit of advice I have for you, is that you only LIVE ONCE, you only get ONE TIME to live your life. Is this what you want? Is this how you want to live the rest of your life. Don't stay for the children, they will still end up with issues if you stay or go, think about it, everyone is "who" they are because of how they were raised, they need to know that both parents love them and support them, yes it will be hard, but you need to think about YOU! How dare someone verbally or emotional rob you of your feelings or self-esteem,,, you need to get pissed...

You DESERVE a better life. read that abuse help link over there. it's good. you can and should call that number too. please consider calling them. they can help.
