X does not pay child support. Any Ideas?
He's had a horrible work history. 2 years in a job...2 years unemployed....over and over again. He's unemployed and hasn't paid child support in over a year. He claims he is opening up his own business. My lawyer said he is in the 'loop-hole' category, because he can open a business and not be expected to earn a salary for x years. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do here? This seems crazy to me that he can be a 'legal' dead beat dad. All of his bills are paid for by his girlfriend. He doesn't own a house or a car. Help? Ideas?

Legal Fees aren't really much of a worry, since most family court appearances don't require you to have your attorney be present. However your attorney can file the necessary paperwork for you and appear for you on your own behalf. Just as Child Support Enforcement Services will do by appearing for you "OBO" = On Behalf Of you and the commissioner of your states Child Support Enforcement office generally through the Dept. Of Social Services. Also to inform you and alot of "our" readers, a "Dead Beat Dad" doesn't necessarily have to own anything other than a "Social Security #" to have him arrested, incarcerated for 30 days, put a "Tax Lien" on anything he or his girlfriend has in order to get child support for "Your" (his & your) child/ren. If you feel that your attorney isn't doing you any justice or isn't representing you in a child support matter, then fire him/her and seek professional help from a qualified, hard working, reliable attorneys firm. Any VIOLATION OF COURT ORDER even if it's a CHILD SUPPORT CASE VIOLATION, you can FILE YOUR OWN VIOLATION PETITION and take him back to SUPPORT COURT and either let the Support Magistrate or the Judge decide what's the best way to handle a "Dead Beat Non Paying Dad".

"...ideas..." - Take out an advertisement in your local paper to shame him. It may not get you your needed money but it would most likely not be considered defamation of character; and, in this particularly instance, the individual's unwillingness to step up and be responsible for the child support speaks volumes to others about whom they would be doing business with. This tactic harbors on malice but "dead-beats" really do not deserve the consideration afforded to them by legal loop-holes. Otherwise, let it go so that you can move forward with your life and not allow this to consume your energies...

Thanks SuYin. This does help. I really appreciate you sharing your story too. I agree, it may be time to look at this a bit differently.

I would say take him to court, like I'm sure a lot of folks in this community will but here's
