My wife is using my house as punishment?

Hey so all you parents out there, I have a question for you. My wife, who is unable to control my son, told him he would be staying with me for the week cause he is grounded and not allowed to watch t.v., or go to the library after school.( I don't have a t.v.) One on hand I am excited, cause I hardly get to see him, but then I wonder if he will resent me. My wife of course is taking the easy way out, but I know she will never deal with it. Any thoughts anyone?

Hey thanks spaz, I like I said I was excited about being able to spend  more time with him, but then started second guessing myself. Thanks for keeping me on the right road.

Later on down the line, when your son gets older and his intelligence trumps his impulsiveness - he is going to appreciate you holding your standards for him high.

When kids act up, it's more about desiring parental attention than being a "bad" kid. They want structure, they want discipline, they WANT parents.

When push comes to shove, you are going to be the one he goes to when he needs help or guidance when it really counts....so look at the long term, not the now.

Hey spaz here is my thing though. I can make him toe the line at my place but, when he goes back to her place, she doesn't back me up. That has been a huge problem with us that she refuses to deal with. She lets him get away with everything then throws her hands up and let's me deal with it when he disrespects her and acts up.

You are parents - if he is punished for being bad, then you need to stand as one about it. Otherwise all you do is make him realize he can get away with things with you, and be allowed to treat his mother with disrespect.

Sure he's going to be pissed at you for not letting him have his way - shit happens - they get over it.

It's parenting.

Resent you for what?  Take the opportunity to spend the time with him.  You can't get that time back.  Peace.
