What to do with his belongings?

I had posted this in a reply it was in a 2008 thread hopefully this is the correct place to post.

we seperated august 2008(he lived there we have a child together were never married)

he was taken out of the rental aggreement same time. his stuff is still in my storage which is included in my rent. last contact I had with him was june 3rd he wanted to arrange a time to  pick up his belongings and I havent heard back from him. I called and his cellphone was disconnected.last known address is at the homeless shelter, he does not have a job I do not know where nor how to contact him. are there any forms that can help me out I reside in California and would like his stuff out of my storage space. the landlord had said it is between me and him and I was told by the police to contact a civil lawyer which I can not afford. if I were to send a registered letter stating he has 21 days to remove his property from the storage units would that stand in court?

the last known address is at the homeless shelter.

btw - don't let them know his contact info is a homeless shelter - they may not let you rent....

take it all to a seperate storage place - let them know that you are renting the unit to facilitate an exchange of property - give them his name and contact information & leave the key with them,  pay for one month of storage.

The day it is put there, send the certfied letter stating where his things are, the address, phone number, unit number etc. and that he has 30 days to pick up his items or they will be put to auction by the storage company.

This relieves you of any legal obligation or ability of him to come after you for stealing & disposing of his property.

I would ask Spaz but if you don't know any friends of his or anything, I wonder if posting it in the newspaper for a specified time would work? Just a thought...

i'm not sure how this works exactly.  what about his family or friends?  there must be someone that you know that knows him....maybe they can hold his stuff for him instead?
