Divorce process

I live in NY. I had a legal seperation for a year. After which I got a lawyer and filed for divorce. That was two years ago. The first several months the main lawyer had someone who worked under him handeling the case. She was never avaliable for calls and I eventually found out that she left or was fired. I have now been dealing with another person who has been taking my calls but it is taking forever. I call almost monthly and he said it is moving forward: the papers are in, he had to resend this or check that ect. Now just yesterda he said it is all set except for some new rule/law in NY that they have to verify the original marriage or something to this effect...which is holding a lot of things up.

Does all of this sound fair/accurate? They were very quick to get me in the office and get a large check from me but since then its like pulling teeth to hear anything. I just want the process over with

well:

They said it has been verified/checked or however you say it and the papre work is now of the 'referres' desk. However, he said that alot of the courts take vacation in august so I should have an answer in september. I have my fingers crossed

I have called them several times. Basically monthy now. They asked me to call back in July for an update. Yeah its really frustrating

Divorce in NY is not an easy, or fast, process...what you are going through is not unusual. Although I haven't heard of the new requirement regarding verification (I don't practice in NY) - I have to say it wouldn't surprise me.

wow jasonn, i am sorry that you have to deal with this.. maybe you can call the attorney himself/herself instead of the person below... try to get to the bottom of this.. what a drag.. some people just dont understand what its like to drag this on for more than its needed.. i think its the almighty dollar thats talking for them..
