What is involved in a court-ordered phycological evaluation in TN?

We are going to a status conference with our lawyers and the judge soon.  The last time our lawyers met with the judge, the judge said he may order a psychological evaluation of my stbx (who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder).  Does anyone know what kind of tests a psychological evaluation is composed of in the state of TN?  Could it's outcome help my custody case?  Any idea of how much it would cost?  Thanks for your help!

Here in Kansas a psych eval can cost about $500 to $1000.  I work in the foster care field and sometimes before children are returned to the home, we will request that the parents obtain a psych eval to prove that they are capable of taking care of a child.  I would imagine that it ususally is between $450 to $750.

I'm not quite getting why the judge would bother to have your stbx go through a psych eval when they are already diagnosed....that doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense...unless your stbx refuses to acknowledge the illness...

there are a whole battery of tests that can or might be run....it's dependent on the situation and reason for it.

It can help if the evaluator rules that your stbx's parenting capacity is diminished due to the bi-polar - or it could go opposite - there are a lot of functioning parents out there with bi-polar.

Cost? No clue - that is a question for your attorney.
