deciding to sell home before divorce

i have been married to my wife for 18 years and we have two homes in arizona my wife and kids live in one and she wants us to sell the house i'm living in now before the devorce and i would rent an apartment and split the money from the sale,would this have any adverse effect on the out come on our devorce settlement (we have not yet to file any paperwork) \\

I'm not an attorney (but I used to work for one), but you really do need to talk to one and find out the legal ramifications in your state. Personally, I think you should sell both houses and split the proceeds for both. She can then find something comparable in the same neighborhood, etc. so the kids don't have to change schools. Why shouldn't you share in the proceeds of both homes if you have contributed towards their costs? Just askin...
