How does this work?

My stbx called and told me she wants to meet and discuss how to divide our assets.    I told her I'd rather discuss it over the phone, or better yet, for her to simply give me a list for my attorney to review.   She balked.   I've been lied to so much over the years, I cannot believe a word she says.  I think it's better to just get a list.  It eliminates any confusion.  She went on to say that she is being pressured by my attorney to provide a demand letter.  This doesn't really seem true to me.   Has anyone had this experience before?  Can you give me an idea what this is about and how you handled it?

I doubt she is lying about the demand letter, if your attorney is worth his retainer he will put the pressure on her to settle things.

Some people have the divorcing relationship where they can sit down together and hash out the "stuff" - you, obviously, aren't comfortable with that so if I were you I'd just tell her to put her demands in writing and submit them to your attorney as has been requested.

Well, you have two choices:

1) Bend over, and take it in the rear.

2) Keep everything in writing.  No phone, or in person.

Choose.

divorce can bring out some horrific aspects of a person....it's best to keep the business side of divorce and the emotional side apart.....

i agree with you. i would insist on a list...everything via email only. not on phone or in person.

in person should be handled with mediators and/or lawyers there....

if not, most meetings devolve into screaming matches.

You keep everything in writing.  Emails only.  Keep EVERYTHING in writing.  Believe me, it has covered my ass more than once.
