Ok to date during divorce?

I have finally been able to track down my ex and served him with divorce papers about a month ago. We have been separated for almost two years living in different parts of the state (CA) though. A question... I feel like I'm ready to move on and have actually met someone that I like a lot. Is it ok to start dating someone? I have a child with my ex and would never start dating if it made me look bad to the court, but I'm ready to move on with my life. Any suggestions?

CA is primarily a no fault state - BUT - dating someone while you are still married can cause a custody issue depending on the circumstances...so I highly suggest you wait, or at the very least, be EXTREMELY discreet.

I started dating 4 months after my stbx left. we aren't divorced yet.

A lot of people have told me I need to take some time. Really? He was with her while he was living with me and moved in with her.

I don't know if his cheating made it easier for me to decide to move on or whether I was trying to establish that I'm still attractive, since so many movies try to put the blame on the victim. whatever. I'm glad I did. It makes me feel better about myself. Besides, you should see my boyfriend! He's way better than my stbx ever was. I met him AFTER the stbx left.

I don't know about the legal issues. In some states it's a crime to have sex with another person while still married, even if you're separated. In some states it doesn't matter if you're having sex with another person while married, since in most divorces there's infidelity. Interesting, huh? If there's no one else, it's possible to mend fences. Once another person gets involved, it's over.

I don't have kids, but if I did I wouldn't introduce them to anyone I was dating until we were engaged. I've dated men with children and this is what they do.
