But can she cook?

With apologies to Red Skelton;

A new husband is introducing his new wife to his Aunt's at the annual family reunion, Aunt May says, "My, what a lovely woman, you are a very lucky man.  Does she cook as well as she looks?"  To which the nes husband replies, "She is such a great cook that we have the only dog in the neighborhood that doesn't beg at table."

Haha Delia- I can cook but don't have time. I go to my bat cave...and forget that things are on the stove. I HAVE burnt tea it is easy! A friend of mine bought me an ice tea maker because not only did I do it ONCE - I did it 2 times..and does it STINK the house up..!
I can bake though..pie crusts that will melt in your mouth!

I have a friend that says she is in her kitchen regularly - to dust her stove.  She's my hero.

*dyin* wheeeeeeeeeeeze

I'm great in the kitchen - in fact last night I made stuffed green peppers - my sister, on the other hand, burns water....literally - she always forgets she has water on to boil and has killed 4 pots....

So did my ex husband - how the hell do you burn TEA!?

A smoke detector works well as a dinner bell.

Bluebird, that reminded me of my first attempt at chicken soup.I knew squat about cooking when my FIL asked me to cook him chicken soup. He bought a bird, veggies and macaroni. Having never cooked before and having not expressed any culinary interests outside of opening a chocolate bar,  I only had a glimpse of a kitchen based activities from a doing dishes angle, but being young and fearless I threw myself into the task eagerly.... until I realized I actually had to TOUCH the raw bird! Still, I had an enthusiasm and a desire to impress my new hubby and his dad and nothing was going to deter me from achieving a beaming success...  Well, that wasn't to happen... Not only didn't I know about the paper, gut containing pouch inside the bird but I also didn't realize that to cook actually meant cook not just bring to a boil full blast! Dinner time come, I not so proudly served plain noodles as my chicken soup turned into a bloody mess topped with a gray foam... ewww.....lol....

You're right, gemi. With turkey bacon you might as well resign yourself to throwing out the pan.

I seem to have a bit of problem with hamburger. I came home one day after a walk with my dog to find the fire truck at my place, door bashed in, as they had rescued the flaming hamburger from the stove. True story.

Simmering cinnamon on the stove makes up for using the smoke alarm as a timer (personal experience). It works well for the first hour or so, but when the pot starts buring you have to start all over again.

I'm so glad that my cooking skills are still intact.  Although- I may be a bit rusty because we have no kitchen.....

BTW- I make mashed potatoes to die for and awesome fettincini alfredo!  My lasagna is great, too.  Dang, I need some days off after the kitchen is complete just to cook!

Coming from an old Chef Just remember Brown is cooking Black is done then you don't need a timer.

Caution!!! Extensive private lab tests (oh ok, my kitchen) proved repeatedly, the smoke detector, although a great timing device for a wide variety of materials, including 'real' bacon, can not be trusted as a reliable turkey bacon timer...

Smoke detectors can also be used for bacon timers.  Just a little advice for all of new cooks on here.

I actually used that joke when I met her in-laws.  The names were changed to protect the hungry.  Anyone know the recipe for ice?
