Tax dependent or not?

When I get a divorce, is my ex-wife still a tax dependent?  This question has to do with whether my wife can stay on my corporate health and medical plan.

Call your human resources and tell them you are "thinking" about getting a divorce and want to know how much Cobra coverage will cost. I think my ex is paying around 160 for his thru his company and mine is 427 a month. That is without dental.

Thank you Trisha.  Since we're talking...
How do I find out how much COBRA will cost?  I'm hitting dead ends on my corporate intranet to see what they pay and I pay.

No. You won't be able to use her as a dependent on your taxes. Once you get your divorce she should be removed from your insurance. She will be able to take out the Cobra insurance that is offered. It will be expensive.
