Name Change

Actually I put in my dissolution papers that I am taking my maiden name back, he didn't want me to do that becuz my name will be different from the boys name, but I told him if and that's a big IF I ever get remarried my name will be different from theirs anyways.  I really wanted to take my name back badly becuz I don't want to be associated with his sorry ass anymore and I'm glad I did it!!  I'm proud of my family name!!   But you should be able to choose to take your name back or not, but if you signed papers like spaz said then you will have to change it or else he can haul you into court for contempt charges and you don't want to go there.  I already hauled him into court for contempt and it's not good.

In that it is in the decree, and you signed and agreed to it, you will have to at some point, otherwise he can bring you into court for contempt.

Tell him to go look in the phone book at al the people with his same last name - if none of them affect his credit, you won't either as you now have the same relationship with him as joe schmo in "the book".

 

Now if you don't pay the truck, then that WILL affect his credit - but it has nothing to do with you sharing his last name.

I don't have the decree with me... if it says I have to, does that mean I do?  The only reason I want to hold onto the stupid thing is that my car insurance is paid up until March and I don't want to have a driver's license and insurance papers saying 2 different things until I change the insurance over to me.  I got my truck in the divorce but he is the sole name on the loan.  I have a power of attorney stating that I will pay off that loan and when completed, the title will revert to me.  The ex is worried that with me having his last name, it will affect his credit.  The poor darling...

Does it say you have to? Or does it says you have the right to?
