there isn't a hard and setfast rule or law - many people are under the impression that the one who pays the child support is the one that has to carry the insurance, which is probably why he is saying it has to be his - so don't jump to the conclusion that he is trying to screw you - he could just be misinformed.

Most people go with the most economical choice, and if yours is cheaper, and they have been on it for so long, it makes sense not to change it.
