NAD -

as far as I'm concerned - any husband, divorcing or not, deserves to get his ass kicked if he tries to take a woman's engagement ring...legalities aside.

Now legally speaking - The engagement ring is hers post marriage - she fulfilled her end of the contract by marrying him.

No you can not call the police - jewlery is a marital asset - he had the right to take it...and I'm guessing he had his reasons.

You list it as a marital asset and if he got rid of it you can be entitled to part of the value...unless you cheated on him - he could prove you owe him money...

Generally all gifts given in the marriage are yours.  2much is right on the the marital asset bit though.  It's a tough situation.  My stbx and I signed a separation agreement that all gifts, including jewelry, were to belong to the one that was given to.  This curbs the whole legality of splitting marital assets.  Good luck!

I would think that this would have to be part of the divorce settlement.  In all likelihood, if the jewelry is of any significant value, you'll have to sell it and split the money, just like any other marital asset.  And if the jewelry doesn't have  a lot of value, then why would you want it.  I certainly can't hold much sentimental value for you.
