If the wife decided to initiate the divorce who gets the engagement ring?

Even if it's a family heirloom, it's still hers. It's considered a gift. : (

It's a promissory gift, not a payment for services. it's hers. It sucks, I know, but in the long haul it's better to just let her have it. There are a lot of emotional reasons for letting her keep it too, but I'll keep the answer practical. Let it go.

You're married? It's hers. In my opinion it's a gift like any other gift. If you were not married yet, then she needs to give it back.

that is a hard call.. it was a gift.. and normally people don't ask for gifts back, but on the other hand, it was a token of a promise to marry.. I am guessing, you are asking because you both want it.. the question really might be why does she want to keep it.. why do you? If the pros out way the cons, I would continue to try and get it back
