You do it day by day, or hour by hour, if you must.  It's like forging metal--blow by blow, the material gains strength.  You already have it in you, but your trials will bring it out in a remarkable way.  It takes sooooo much strength to keep going when it feels so empty and painful, and yet you do keep going--minute by minute, moment by moment.  That's where your strength is.  Not in knowing that it'll get better next month, but in your determination to keep moving for just one more miserable day even if it doesn't get better next month.

No matter what happens, it will get better next month--next month, you'll be stronger than you've ever imagined, and then you'll exceed that the following month, all by living on the razor's edge called "now". 

I am sorry for your pain.  I know it's hard and daunting.  You will be ok.

does anyone out there have the problem with a drinking spouse????

i wish i could tell you because i too am i n the same boat  he is spending everything we have on i dont even know what and the only time he is nice is when he needs his bills paid  i too tried to stand up to him with the no and it only makes matters worse for me  so if you get the answer please share it

I think that you will be able to get your strength when you feel inside of yourself that it's time. At that point, you will know that it's time and you will do what you need to do to separate yourself from him and try to move on with your life.
