My stbx im'd me with a request

Just a quick question....  I forgot to log off my Windows messenger last night and when I woke up, I found that my stbx had been IM'ing me with repeated requests that we start application sharing.  There were also attempts for us to talk but mostly the application sharing.  I am unfamiliar with this other than that people use it for work.

Any ideas why he would want to do this?

aimless is correct - I use app share with some clients & other legal professionals to talk to them in real time but over the computer - we've done conferences that way.

It doesn't allow him access to your computer - it is just, as aimless said either him trying to literally talk to you via the computer or play a game, etc.

there are specific programs both of you would have to have for him to be able to "share" your computer.

My opinion -
Don't do it!!!

Any sharing of computer applications could potentially give access to your computer to the person you're 'sharing' with.  Note... I said potentially.  They'd have to know how to do so, but there is that potential.

Application sharing is typically used (at least at my workplace) when people are having computer issues, one user at a site say on the west coast, will share and 'take over' a computer's application on the east coast. At least, that's what I've used it for. :)

As to WHY? Well, I have no idea why anyone would want to do this, for a non work reason. I might want to do this with my OWN stuff, but not with anyone else's, I mean I know what I have, but I don't know what others have on their computers.

:)

Hope this helps!

As I understand Windows Messenger, the 'sharing applications' is more in the line of "sharing" the Windows appliations related to Messenger, such as the games/news/radio/webcam/etc.

I could be wrong, but that's what I understand it in my limited Windows Messenger knowledge is - I normally use Yahoo Messenger, so I know more about Yahoo than the Windows system for IM applications.

Again, as I understand it, you "share" the actual messenger "applications" so he knows what you are doing and vice versa - you can both play the same games/listen to the same radio stations/etc. - but as I said, I'm a little out of the loop on Windows Messenger. Hopefully someone else can be a little more helpful on this one!

I'm looking in one of my many computer books. The main thing that would concern me is this statement: It can be dangerous to share Explorer windows and other programs that give access to your entire system.

Did he say why he wanted to share applications with your computer? If he didn't, ask him why.

A lot of the guys on here work with computers maybe one of them will see this. Or post on 2muchfor2long's wall. I think he is working with computers.

I wouldn't let any one have access to my computer. That's how I caught my ex cheating. He gave me his password to his work computer and I logged on remotely and that led to his email.
