Please help

My husband left yesterday. I have been a stay at home the entire marriage. We have 3 children-16,12,and 5. There is not saving account and we have no money in the bank account. He owns his own electrial business. I have no source of income whatsoever. I have no I idea what we owe or what we actually have, he has always handled everything...When he left he said he would pay the housepayment, but called today and said he would not be able to ..he wouldn't be able to pay his bills if he did. I got our power bill and he was behind on it, now it is over 500.00 and is due the 22nd. The water is due,as well as the car payment. He has not given us any money the last 8 weeks, I have had to get money for food from my mom. Now the bills are due and I have nothing. What am I supposed to do?

Are the bills in both of your names or just his?  If they are just in his name, I wouldn't worry about paying them.  Eventually they will get shut off, but then maybe you can get them turned back on in your name.  Just a thought!

I think you've got to talk to a lawyer right away.  He is legally obligated to support his children, and you can't depend on his kindness to do that.  Maybe he'll respond t a court order.

Well if he's not paying your bills now it is only going to get worse. He is already getting ugly.

I managed to get my ex served within two weeks and the temp. spousal support hearing within another three weeks. I live in SC.

You need to have your own lawyer to see that you get what you and the children need. He owns his own business; that means he has the ability to hide assets.

You don't say what state you live in. Why don't you take the time to write in your story so we know more about you. It is sometimes easier to answer questions if that info is available.

Thanks. I really can't work now. My oldest daughter attends 3 different schools and the bus won't take her. She gets out from the first school at 1:40 everyday, and the 2 other children are at different schools also. I have already gotton his financial records. He owns his own business. I really didn't want to have to get ugly about any of this but I don't know how I am going to take care of my children. If I do see an attorney how quick will something be worked out? I really don't want to fight with him about all of this. I told him we probably needed to see a lawyer but he said we could work it out ourselves.

You need to get to an atty. and file for a divorce so you can try to get temporary spousal support and child support til your divorce is final.
See if you can get a credit card in your name using the household income before he left. Guess at the amount of income if you don't know it. You can use the credit card to pay the atty for your divorce. Or borrow money from your relatives.  Start looking for some kind of job.
Go thru the house looking for whatever financial records he might have left there. You will need those too.
Go to the whiet box in the upper right corner of this page: state divorce laws and calculators to look up the laws for your state.
Take care and good luck
