passport issue

My ex of 6 months is wanting me to go with him to get passports for my children. He wants to travel out of the country with his girlfriend and my children ages 6 and 8. I don't feel comfortable at this time with the idea of my children leaving the country. Do I have to do this?

I agree with Angie. As well, I would never allow my ex to take my kids out of the country. You just never know. Better safe than sorry. I really can't see any sane judge to allow him to do this either. Stick to your guns and keep your kids close to you.

Thanks, I talked to my attorney today and she said the same thing, kind of. She told me to just sort of ignore his requests and that nothing could be done on his part unless he took me to court which wouldn't be particularly cheap. I didn't want to say anything until I knew I was in the right. I guess that is the most difficult part for me, not reacting right away but waiting until I am sure that my response is correct before responding. I have never felt so unsure of myself in my entire life. Divorce has so many rules and so many grey areas that can be interpreted in so many different ways! My ex seems to have a particularly large amount of time to devote to reading our divorce decree and using this knowledge to always be one step ahead of me in manipulating the information to suit him. I feel quite naive at times!

You do not have to do this. He must have your signed consent to get passports but you are not obligated to give it. It won't make him happy but a simple "I don't feel comfortable with that right now" suffices. All the Best...
