PERS in clackamas county oreon

Hope someone out there can help me with this question.  Getting a divorce and it is all very ulgy and affecting our son and I hate the whole damn thing.  The good news is that I know that my future has great potential and I am going to survive and become what I was always meant to be.  My stbx and I both have retained attorneys and had a settlement meeting last yesterday.  He has worked for clackamas county as a juvenille probation officer since 1995 and yet is only reporting less than 80,000 in his accounts, when I inquired why it was so low he told me that the county matches it upon retirement, can you explain what that means and if in his asset column the amount now or the amount in the future is what I should consider, please and thank you for any help you can provide

Ok - he contributes a portion of his pay to a retirement fund -when he retires, whatever he contributed, they match it, and that is his retirement money.

You are entitled to a portion of what his retirement would be if it were whole (meaning matched) upon your divorce -

so, that in mind, when the county matches his contribution to his fund when he does retire you will get the amount of the "matching" you are due. OR you could negotiate for a lump sum at the time of your divorce.

So you have to advise your attorney of this, and in turn your attorney will request documentation regarding how his retirement fund is set up, and negotiations will go on from there.

His financial statements are legally correct - he didn't "omit" anything really - retirement funds are just a PITA to deal with in divorce cases.

i'm not sure, but during the process, both parties have to supply paper proof of assets like this.  he can say whatever he wants, but the papework should state the true numbers.
