My Bum Knee!!!

Well My friends, I don't know if I mentioned this before but my right knee has been bothering me for 2 years, on and off now.  Just minor discomfort, aches during cold weather and of course weakness sometimes no major pain. I fell at college (no I didn't report it now it's too late) I'm kinda like that. don't report or sue anyone but I have sworn that next time I get hurt it's on!

Anyywwayy, Two weeks ago I could barely walk, couldn't put any pressure on it at all felt like it was gonna give way. The MRI came back, I have a torn meniscus.

I need advice, they want to do an Arthroscopy. Anyone have experience with this? I've heard good and bad so not sure what to do and cant afford the time off. I do have a desk job and can probably get to work sooner. Whatcha all think?

Enjoy your Tom Sawyer swing-fest Asim.  You should be fine.  Don't forget to take some time to enjoy the Beach itself.  HB is nice, I used to live down that way, years ago.

Oh and keep us posted on the Knee Surgery!

I'm off to Huntington Beach Adventure Playground, some kind of muddy Tom Sawyer, wood sawing, tire swinging place full of kid fun. Hope my knee behaves. Talk to you later

I've got the therapy covered. I work for a PT department. Just not sure. Some of them don't think its necessary they say they wouldn't until they truly couldn't walk. They recommend just strengthening my knee. Losing a couple of pounds wont hurt either LOL

OW! OW!

Honestly, the arthoscopic surgery is not that bad. Itsy bitsy scars, I can hardly find them now, As long as you do the physical therapy exercises you come back FAST. :)

Just follow the advice and keep elevated as you're supposed to and walk on it if you're supposed to. :)

I was just walking, night time class, we use the buddy system at night so it was about four of us, not enough space on the sidewalk, I had one foot on the grass the other on the side walk. there was a dip in the grass, for drainage purposes i think, I stepped in that and fell hard.

Being over-exuberant playing softball, and there was a hole in the outfield. (We don't have gophers, we get moles and once the mole hills go away there's divots in the ground that the grass grows longer over and then they cut the grass even.....)

Anyhoo.... I now don't do sideways sports like softball or soccer, and run and bike. :)
I'm still new at the biking thing and keep falling down when I stop. I have those shoes that connect to the pedals, and boy they take a while to get used to! I was supposed to go out biking today, except it raining (who expected it to rain in Seattle anyhow?) and I'm a bit scared of that, so will have to go for a run instead.

You said you fell in collage... were you doing something that caused you to fall?

yeah, I was glad it wasn't my ACL. How did you hurt your knee?

The 'curved' fix has you on crutches for only a couple of days
a week or two at the most. I was back to work the same week if I recall correctly.

The 'across' kind takes more crutches time and more recovery, but it's not as bad as the ACL (which was 6 weeks!)

Lizm, yes thanks. Just worried it wont make things any better. I don't even thinks I'm that bad. But I have medical right now and it wont cost me a dime. Thats also why I'm considering it.

Hi Asim!
I've had both a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in the same knee
Both have been repaired.
For the meniscus -- it's an easy repair if it goes with the 'curve' so to speak,
if it goes 'across' it takes a longer recovery, but still heals just fine!

My knee had NO aches, etc after 8+ years now. :)
AND I now run on it where I never did that before.
Hope that helps!

I have thought of getting him into counseling and when we get settled in the new town I plan on looking around and see if I can find one. I agree with this. Thank you for caring; and good luck on your knee. And if you have the surgery be sure you have plenty of ice. Ice will be your new friend. You shouldn't miss very many days of work. I think he missed 2 days of school plus the weekend. (Wednesday-Sunday) Just remember to take it easy afterwards.

You should get him into counseling. Even the kids get tired and need a brake. They also have hard decision and thing to accept and its hard for everyone. Just don't stop talking to him and get him someone he can talk to too and express himself without worrying about hurting anyones feelings.

Sorry to disappoint but things are not peaceful. The stbx called all the time and if he could not get me on my cell phone he called the family member I was visiting and said he wanted to give his side of the story. I wasn't telling a side so then after he got off the phone I had to tell the story. I got to listen in on one of the phone call's, and it turned out I got to hear the lies he is spinning. Granted some of it was true but with a big spin to turn it into a lie. My son was the one who told me he wanted to get away.Which told me it was time to make a move. He is excited for the change. Now I know my problems with the stbx are disturbing but for our son to want to get away from his father and not to see him bothers me.

Yes it helped him, it pains him when the weather changes but it not a bad pain. Does that make since? Anyway I had to leave town and get away from the stbx. He kept hounding me and I just needed to get away and breath. I made some major decisions and I'm moving forward with mine and my sons life.

Hay, sorry to hear about your knee.... My son had this surgery and it is no big deal. You should recover quick. You'll be on crutches for a couple of weeks but it shouldn't slow you down. Just take it slow.
