how do i tell my child

Thanks Paula for the advice. I have read the two articles you recommended. They are helpful. I think, just the idea is frightening. My friend told me not to tell him until his father moves out or we finalize the divorce. For some reason i can't post a reply to your comment. Thanks!

I'm thinking the same thing.  I don't want to shock them but man it's going to be hard being here until the divorce is final.  Is it OK to cry a lot when you tell them or do you just tell them sort of matter-of-fact?

there should be a box below  my response here that says "leave your Answer".  do you have that box?

i'm glad the artciles helped.  i kind of agree with your friend, but kids are smart and can figure things out.  they may not know exactly what is happening, but they probably know something is wrong.

my main issue with waiting is won't that be a bigger shock?  most people need things told to them slowly, to adapt.  so maybe you have some conversations with them now to give some sort of warning....

do you know any divorced friends, or do they have any kid friends from divorced families?
