Looking Good and Feeling Good

Treadmill
My treadmill just died. I've had it 115 days, and neither Horizon nor Sears want to step up and repair it. Sears wants to charge me $150 to look it over, and Horizon just says "Go see Sears." I bought the treadmill when MyUnwife left and took the old one with her; it was a floor sample for $550. I know you get what you pay for, but it was all I could afford. I figured I could get at least a year out of it, and not 4 months. So, if I need to replace it, what would you recommend? What's a good brand, and who stands behind their products?

when looking for corporate addresses, always go to the investor's site if it is a public company

You know what Linny, I thought of that too. I couldn't get a corporate address. I was so frustrated the last time I left the store that I didn't really want to go back, the phone people were no help, and the last time I checked there wasn't one on the website. Maybe I'm a web-blind (and I'm not writing that out as a possibility...) but I couldn't find a way through the maze.
I am a mouse with no cheese! Any suggestions?

I am shocked. I know, if it were me, and I know its not, but if it were me, I would write to Sears Corporate Office. I think something would get done about it.
Sometimes principle is all you have to hang on to. You sound like you were a good customer and I find it hard to believe that Sears doesn't care. You just haven't found the right contact. Go directly to Corporate.

Hey Ava! I'm sorry, I missed your reply! Actually as policy, they'll only offer you the extended warrenty up to 30 days after purchase. If you haven't bought it by then, then they generally won't sell it to you. They're not supposed to (as per the backers of the policy). I used to work for a company that would do that sometimes, but only the store manager had the power. I didn't get anywhere with anybody at Sears on any level.
Thanks for your suggestion though! I appreciate your advice. Any other time or place, I think you'd be right!

Thanks linny. Actually it this point it's a little late that was months ago. I agree with you, I've spent lots of money there. I've bought everything from grills to washing machines, and have even bought their extended warrenty on several products (not the treadmill which is probably why they were so pissy, but that shouldn't matter). I was also in retail for 10 years, I know what customer service is about. Sears has lost that. I talked to several people who told me that they were sorry, but there was nothing they could do. It sounds like I'm leaving something out doesn't it? I'm not. Sears has forgotten how to serve the customer.
It's ok, my last lawnmower I bought at Sears. After 7 years, it died. I didn't go back to Sears to replace it. I went to Lowes. I think I'll have to replace my fridge soon, and my dishwasher is going out (it looks like it probably came with the house when the FIRST owners bought it). I'm a firm believer in customer service. I like to know that somebody is going to take care of me if things break down. I shouldn't have to play telephone tag trying to find somebody to take care of things. So when I replace my other appliances, I'll just go somewhere that will.
Thanks for your advice Linny.

Go back to Sears. They have built their reputation taking care of the customer. I have been one of their's for 20 plus years. You must have been dealt with by someone who doesn't have a clue about GOOD customer service. Please get with the store manager. I think you will be surprised.
