How long is long enough?

I personally have given 3 yrs to this and he decided in April that maybe he ought to try to do something about the marriage?  It generally lasts about 2-5 days and then goes back to what it was before.  He don't have a nice thing to say about anyone or anything.  It wares on everyone around him.  He acts like the world owes him everything and he shouldn't have to do anything for it.  I really exhausted myself emotionally and physically in the 3 yrs we have been married, just tryint to make everyone happy and keep up on everything for the entire family.  Now do I really need to try just because he finally has heard that I am done and want a divorce?

Unfortunately I have asked him to try marriage counseling and his answer is always that he has to work, he can't take time off.  Right now he is laid off and there is plenty of time, but he has 100 reasons why he can't do 30 different things.  He made a promise in March to quit smoking, to his son, and he still has yet to even try.  Alot of talk and no action.  Thus the actions speaking louder than his harsh words.
