I'm not an attorney, but in my divorce we were only married 11 yrs and I got half of his retirement. He started building his retirement long before we met. I don't know if it makes any difference, but we had 2 children together. Do you have any children? You may be entitled to more than you think. Just be fair. Every situation is different.

Ask your lawyer - find out if this is something that is negotiable - it may be clear cut either way, but once you find out, you'll know whether to pursue it or not.
