Should there be a "D360 Convention"?

After a very long and quite spirited discussion on what started out as a joke thread, it got me to thinking very seriously about this.  This site has been a wonderful and informative resource for people who are in a divorce situation.  It has also become a very good social support system in which many of us have come to rely and depend on one another.  Online friendships have been forged and I was thinking...should we have some sort of convention?  If so, then how light hearted or serious should it be?  I should make it clear that this would be a meeting that the owners/operators of the website would have *no* involvement and that this would only be planned by members of the site...but if there's no real interest in putting together a convention, then there's no point in putting further effort or work in the daunting details and tasks of putting together a massive get together if nobody will show up.  So, just to start...how many of you would be interested in a "D360 Convention" and how light hearted or serious should it be?

This poll is for gauging interest only...obviously, I know many of us are in different places financially and that costs and getting time off would be a concern, but I just want to know at this time if there is a basic INTEREST in the convention idea...if there is, we can work out the other details later.

For the purposes of getting a head count, please post an interest in attending a Vegas convention on this post.  So far, I make it about 37 people that would be interested in going...if you haven't voted, put your vote in...if you have, don't re-vote.  If you have voted but want to rescind your vote b/c of the location, send me an e-mail...please do not post it on my wall in case I miss it...an e-mail, I won't miss.  This will help at least give us a rough number so that we can get accurate pricing for a convention.  Thank you!

Well to toot my and blue B's home state - Michigan has one of the worst marriage and divorce rates in the nation and with the economy really bad here I am sure a site could be found for a resonable cost.

I think it is an awesome idea~! BTW

If you guys are really serious I would recommend checking out SmartMarriages which is a yearly conference for Marriage Educators, therapists, counselors etc etc

Diane Sollee the organizer has taken it from a small local thing to a huge yearly production.

Presenters are quite known ( John Gray, Gary Chapman, etc etc) and it is a wonderfull experience.

Again try and check out how they did it and I would love to attend and if you will have me present.

I thinks it's a great idea, Chris had mentioned this a few months ago I believe too! I think the meet and greet would be the least costly way to go...

I already had my mini-meet-n-greet - with trisha! hehehe

She drove out to meet us when we stopped to fill up and get food on the way down to ga. She is AWESOME! It was just a few minutes but it still sooooo lovely to be able to give her a real hug!

I can't wait till we can drive down to her farm and my girl see the horses. We're going to kidnap bear on the way, hehehe.

Plus, like I said there's costs to consider...a lighthearted meet and greet would probably be a cheaper alternative...getting guest speakers would cost more money to pay them for their time, travel arrangements, etc...all that would probably have to be tacked onto the cost of the convention...a meet and greet would probably just consist of the hotel room plus convention hall...much cheaper.  I could still come up with an itinerary...karaoke, anyone?  Scrabble? ;)

Great idea!! I think it should be lighthearted though.  We deal with enough serious things being divorced and being a single parent and all, so please make it lighthearted!! We also need a chat room on here too!!  That would be great!! :)

J- you are right about the shred details.  I've shared things with many of you that I've only told one or two other people.  Okay, maybe three.

I think it's a fabulous idea!  It would take some time to organize, but I think it would be worth it.

I agree it would be difficult because we've all met under the worst of circumstances.  But the fact that we have all helped each other get thru this process (wherever you are in it) makes us family.  I'd love to thank everyone who has helped me through this mine field and let them know just how much I appreciate all of their insight.  This isn't a walk one does alone.

I think it would be a tough convention, the more light hearted the better.  We have all shared some very private details with others.  To have the chance to say thank you in person, would have to tell the people at Kleenex to crank up the production.  Could be the thing that turns the economy around though.

Absolutely...There are many people on here that I credit with being a rock for me. People that have made me laugh when I needed it and guided me when I needed it...I would love the opportunity to say thank you in person. I would love to deepen some of the friendships I have made here. There are amazing people here and it would be lovely...
