Given the "all clear"

So, this isn't about my stbx or divorce, but just had to share.

Yesterday J had another followup brain MRI and his appointment with his neurosurgeon.  J was a bit concerned because last weekend had a visual field test (ordered by his neurosurgeon) and a routine eye exam (ordered by me).  The optometrist picked up an area of his visual field that showed a blind spot...if you can imagine this was in an inner upper part of his eye, something he would never notice unless given a visual field test.  His optometrist recommended J see a neuro-opthalmologist because he felt something was disturbing the optic nerve.  He told J he cannot clear him for driving and will fax the test over to his neurosurgeon.  My thought.... you have nothing to do with clearing him for driving.

So, one week later J's having his MRI and meets with his neurosurgeon.  His neurosurgeon walks into the exam room with a huge grin on his face.  He tells J he's amazed at how quickly his brain has healed, the MRI looks fantastic.  He tells J the visual field test results are a direct result of the bleed that he had from the clot on his brain, and doesn't affect his vision at all.  He said this is common in concussion cases, and it's actually the only detrimental result from the bleed, which is amazing.

So, J has been given the all clear for activity, driving, etc.  The only restriction, he must wear a helmet when riding on 4 legs (horse), 2 wheels (bike), 4 wheels.

The silver lining on the horrific cloud is that not only has J come through this pretty much unscathed, he now has shadowing opportunities this summer with his neurosurgeon, neuropsychologist, and the head of trauma at the hospital he was admitted to.  These letters will open doors on his grad application.

I'm so thankful!   Peace....

SP, I can feel your relief from here!  It sounds like J has a good team of docs who are looking after for his health very thoroughly.  And he has a mom who loves him no end.  After my motorcycle accident I had a terrible concussion and I remember crying because I couldn't do math after a month...then the doc told me to give it a year.  And it's been 4 and I'm juggling balance sheets like no one else...So yes, it does take time, but it does come back.

I am thankful too!!  Like I have mentioned to you I went thru the same....I received information in the mail that it was common to have short term memory loss...I did for a year...

I was able to go back to work and drive....I drove my daughter crazy for everyday when I came home I would ask her if she had dance class tonight...

The people I worked with were great....they would put sticky notes on my computer to remind me of meetings etc...

Inguire if J is is on the confidential list of brain injury people....it is a list if he ever hit his head again the doctor or hospital type his name in to see if he had a prior head injury....it is released to know one else...

I am so happy he is doing great...I came thru it and J will too!!   Hugs to you both today!!
