Email. Without it, how would the self proclaimed hermit make contact with his world? Yes, yes, I know. Any self respecting, self proclaimed hermit wouldn't need to keep contact with his world--thus the "hermit" title and all. Still stick with the plot here, and check your ability to reason at the door.

Yeah, sorry bout the plot thing too. It can be a bit of a disappointment to me too. Then again, I'm a self proclaimed hermit, where do you think I'm going to find a plot?

Ebay? For sale next to the Thighmaster? Not highly likely. Still, there is one place I can buy a clue, find a plot, whatever I like.

That's right! In email! It's in media, Rob! Yeah, it's sort of like in media res only less action and far more convoluted with unintelligible dialogue. Think Macbeth without the title lord and lady.

MACDUFF (standing in a field of grazing sheep, sword in hand): Despair thy charm!

WOOLY (yes sir! Yes sir! Three bags full.) BLACK SHEEP : Baa?

MACDUFF: Then yield thee-- Ya know, screw this! There's no climax! Where's my villain? Untimely ripped?

Yeah, I'm the black sheep: I just make no sense, no matter what scene you place me in.

"I'm your huckleberry, Johnny Ringo"

"Baaa!"

See? So I'm the self proclaimed hermit living through email. Today's email said, "Enjoy life for a bit!"

Yeah, I wasn't sure how to fit my wooly butt into that scene either. "Enjoy life?" But I'm too busy for that! Couldn’t life settle for a "cuddle" right now? Enjoy? How do I create that scene?

Life is funny that way. We forget to enjoy it sometimes. Sometimes we're too hurt to enjoy, still when the chance presents itself, we need to. You know, for at least 8 years I let my day job control me. Sure I made time for small excursions into life, but most of those were plotted kidnappings by MyEx. Was it my job that drove her off? What if I said yes? Would that change the end of that story?

No. It's already written So why ask. Still for the record, no; it wasn't my job. It was me. But see? Here I am returning to the scene of the crime. That's in media Rob. I don't start in the action and come back, I always leave the action to return to the beginning to grab a cup of whine. Yeah, not much of a story really.

"My Precious!"

"Baa!"

Changes the whole story don't it?

"Enjoy life."

What the heck does that mean? Right now I'm a relatively free man. That's scary as hell. I'm trying to devote my time to my writing, but having trouble finding the rhythm. Oddly enough there I have a story. It's just wringing it from grey matter into keystroke magic without checking my Facebook status. I'm writing, I enjoy it. I like where that story is going, no matter how slowly.

What about life? Am I enjoying that? Do I like where that story is going? I'm a chubby blogger on the cover of Heavy Metal with a Pirate Queen holding my waist and fending off the Care Bear hordes: Funshine skull, trapped under her heel, Share Bear wriggling from the queen's rapier, while Grumpy Bear goes, "I knew this would happen," and lives to tell about it. What do you think? No, really, what do you think? I need help. Is this enjoying life?

I'm a writer not a liver. After I lost my job, I decided to take time off and work on my book. Sure, I would doggedly pursue employment opportunities, but less like a Terrier on steroids, and more like a Labrador on Quaaludes. My focus was my story.

In working my story I spent two weeks with the Pirate Queen getting to know her, and now I'm spending two more weeks helping her move. Which story am I concentrating on here?

"Enjoy life."

I guess I am. So why do I feel guilty? Am I shirking my writerly duties or is my inner hermit showing his outer paranoia? I spent so long concentrating on daily survival that it's easy to unravel in just having fun. I'm facing two great opportunities here: to write and sell a book, or to woo and date a pirate.

Why can't I do both? Because I've been trained: you can't have your cake and eat it too. Which is the cake and which is the eating? I know what the Pirate Queen is rooting for.

"Eat Me."

"Baa."

"Ok, Rob, the sheep thing is creeping me out."

See? When you've locked yourself down, it's hard to get back out there, to enjoy life, pretty soon enjoying life seems like more of a chore than the routine. I'm trying to break that cycle. I'm trying to have fun. I'm trying to write. I'm trying to live. In media Rob. I've returned to the scene of the crime, now it's time to move forward.

It's an adventure. I'm scared. I asked the Pirate Queen to hold me, she's said, she would. That'll help. Adventures are better when shared. Maybe I'm working towards the part of life where I fit in.

"Et tu Brutus?

"Baaa!"

"Oh, that is a nice sweater, thank you very much! What's this embroidered in the collar? 'Enjoy Life!' Yes! Yes! I think I will."

Me too. It's just a struggle keeping my inner hermit at bay. He's such the critic. So forgive my rambling blog if it's font shadows have offended, I the sheep blogger will make amends ere long. Give me your e-hands if we be friends and enjoy life.

ROFL SJG!  Thanks, I think!  As for the crabs, I think they scuttle more than run.  At least the hermit variety.  THere are other crab varieties I'll attest to knowing nothing about.  ;)

Oh Mili I remember several vacations like that go with the flow. Driving west we went to see the finger of God. Followed the map it was a pointed rock in the middle of a farmers field! Hey we got to see the finger though.
Rob, to write about life you have to live it to the fullest. Even hermit crabs run from one shell to the next. Do crabs run?
I like your ramble but what the hell were you talking about? LOL

Very True MP.  That sounds like an awesome vacation!  I'm glad you got to have such a cool adventure!

Plucked and shaved monsters? hmm...yeah, those stories could get a little awkward.  I'm gonna go ahead and avoid that one.  ;)

LOL...but what stories you would be able to write about....just think about it...not everyone gets to play with the monsters under the bed...you will find this monster has plucked, tweezed and shaved...lmao...It really was fun. I can see the fun in planning too, the anticipation and enjoyment leading up to the moment...That year felt like an adventure to me...My kids loved having the ability to say turn here...We ended up in Lousville, Ky, St. Louis Missouri, and Chicago, Illinois...We made a big loop back to Michigan, we left one way and came back another...We stopped at caverns in Missouri simply because we saw a sign on the side of the road...turned out to be beautiful and my stbx thoroughly enjoyed himself because he is a rock hound...So I guess there is always more than one way to get to a destination...We all get there eventually, just sometimes we take different routes...

KDB!  LOL! Yeah, I know all about that rarely taking advice thing...Baa indeed.  ;) And of course you're right. What is there to write without experience?  A trip is valuable on many levels.  If nothing else, it should be good for a couple of blogs, eh?  ;)

See MP?  Tequila is one of the few I can dring straght from the little bottle.  Of course it'll leave me on the floor making bottle angels by the end of the night, but hey, that's part of the journey, right?  As for the "flitting" from one project to the next. That's different. That's "Multitasking" in the control freaks world.  I do that alot, but that's cuz I can control the different projects at the same time.  A trip without a destination??? Gah!  I'm practically hiding in the closet thinking about that!  It's way too much like life!!!  ;)

VLady!  You and your details!  Be careful, someday you may get what you ask for!  ;)  And yeah....I'm rooting for the pirate queen too.  ;)

I just knew KDB would agree with me...lmao....I bet she will join me in a few of those little bottles of liquor too...Let's see, better make mine rum, I don't care for tequila....I tend to work on several projects at once...It is one of the things that drove my stbx crazy about me...He liked to work on one project at a time and get it done and move on to the next....Me, I get bored and like to flit from project to project...With my stbx, I called it anal, with you my friend, I will still call it a little inner control freak...lol....I like spontaneous better than flighty...lol...I remember one year we went to leave on vacation and my stbx asked where are we going? I said, wherever we end up...Just drive...It was one of the best vacations me and the kids can remember having...After my stbx got over being mad and got into it, he had to admit it was fun to not be on someone else's timeline but he was angry the first day of vacation...I just figure this is what makes us all our own individuals and interesting...

Ramblin Rob, love it! Whew, I am with Mili on the eat me part, LMAO, poor dad! TMI...

I also agree with the journey being the priority to ones destination!

As for the advice from a smart man, he who gives it, rarely takes it! Baaaa!

One more thing, 2 cents worth, ever think if you take more time to enjoy the little things, the knowledge you could gain, and more power in writing, that it could bring forth?

So seize the moment, "Life is a journey, Enjoy it!"  ; )

ROFL!  Yeah, I've got...lets see...rum...tequila...vodka...sorry no gin...whatcha need?  ;)

And what some see as "flighty" others see as "spontanious"  It's all in how you approach it and who you approach.  The question is, are you happy with it? I'm actually ok being a control freak. It means I plan things and get the done.  Oddly enough though, I am so not punctual.  Weird, eh?

And yes, I think you're right about the balance too.  If only I had some dexterity, I'd be good with that. ;)

Enjoy your trip, my traveling friend!

Don't say anything too loud, my super smart friend might get a big head...lmao...Well, I am a little envious of the fact you have a little inner control freak...I go with the flow generally which tends to make me unorganized but I find it less stressful that way...Makes me come across as flighty though sometimes...I guess not only is it the journey, it is about balance...Something I guess we all struggle with during the entire journey called life....Good thing I like peanuts...Do you see any of those little bottles of liquor around? I knew I should have flown first class...lol.

ROFL!  Yeah, I figure if he suffered through the "on top of Spaghetti" blog, he can deal with a little PQ in wonderland "eat me."  ;)

Thanks, I do appreciate your advice, and that of your REALLY REALLY wise (one might even call him a sooooper genius) friend. And of course you're both right. It is the journey and sometimes that's about relaxing and enjoying.  Unfortunately, my inner hermit is a control freak, and enjoying things means letting them go, and taking what comes.  That comes tough for me, but I'm trying, and the Pirate Queen does make it worth the effort...

Thanks for all your kind words and advice my friend.  I'll save you some peanuts.  ;)

Rob, you know you are one of my favorites don't you? I don't have the charm or the wit to pull Rob off so I am glad you do....lol...I however do have the sense of humor to appreciate it...I am rooting for the Pirate Queen too....btw, you can do both, didn't a smart man once tell me that it is not the destination that is so important but the journey getting there? Didn't you offer to share your airline peanuts with me? Take your own advice my friend...oh, yeah, and remember that your wonderful Dad reads your blogs, sheesh, eat me...lmao...
