Is it a Trend or a Spike?

Divorce is at a 26 year low in the UK.  This according to official figures released by the office of National Statistics Yesterday.

The divorce rate for 2007 dropped to 11.9 for every thousand couples.  There is an interesting difference between these figures and those from 26 years ago.  This time the twice married rate has doubled.  In 1980, only 1 in ten men and women were on their second marriage.  Last year the number was 1 in 5. Also the number of divorces in the 45 plus group jumped.  In 2006, it was 15.3, last year it was 17.3.

Many suspect that these latest figures are due to the credit and housing crunch.  They believe that the divorce rate will rise again when the financial crisis fades.
