Divorce Rings: Memoriam or Letting Go?

When we marry we have rings to symbolize both the engagement and the wedding.  Now a few companies are offering "divorce rings," to mark the end of the relationship.  Do these rings help us let go, or do they keep the sadness at finger's length?

“I think looking at a divorce ring everyday is not going to make you happy,” says jeweler Jim Kruger.  He believes it's better to buy a diamond stud, or some other piece of jewelry. “It’s something she can wear everyday and it makes her happy when she looks at it.”

Laurie Lansford disagrees. She created Transition Rings as a sign of hope. Her web site offers butterflies, sail boats, and even band aids as a way of moving on.  Lansford isn't just the owner, she's a client too. She wears a ring to commemorate the end of her 28 year marriage.

Whatever your feelings, if they involve a ring, be sure, there's somebody out there who makes one.

Really L2G? I'd never thought of selling them.  I've had friends melt them down and have them turned into something else, even other rings.  I always thought that might be a good approach too.  Right now, mine is sitting on my Gumby on my desk.  I think he looks better with it than I did.
