I only have basic cable (and rarely watch TV), so I won’t be staying up to see”Denise Richards: It’s Complicated.”
But if you will, let me know. I’m curious.
Although this is a reality show, my hope is that Richards can use this medium to show that single moms can move on after divorce, past the bitterness. Maybe she can show the successful, savvy side of single motherhood.
“I pretty much bear all in this show,” Richards told Greta Van Susteren for “On the Record” this week. “I am very candid, and everyone will see what I deal with. I am a single mom. I went through a very bitter divorce. I recently lost my mom, and my father lost his wife. So he moved in with me, and we’re helping each other. We are trying to pick up the pieces of our life.”
Richards had a very public and angry divorce from ex-husband Charlie Sheen. The pair split in 2005 and have two young daughters who are on the show.
In the first episode, Richards goes on on a date, although she says, “I am actually fine with being single right now. I have been through a lot. My girlfriends and my sister are really trying to push me into dating. But I am really uncomfortable dating. I have a hard time with it. It makes me nervous.”
VAN SUSTEREN: It makes you nervous? Why? Everybody does it at some point in their life. You have done it before.
RICHARDS: Yes, but I don’t like it.
VAN SUSTEREN: How do you get from no dating to a relationship?
RICHARDS: I don’t know. That is probably why I am single right now.
Of course, I can’t help but wonder: Denise, why are you going on a date if you don’t want to? Why don’t you use the show to tell your family and friends that you’re not ready, that you love being single right now? Here's a sneak preview!P.S.
Here’s a scathing review of Celebrity Single Moms “selfish, irresponsible, exploitative, attention-addicted…” Dina Lohan and Denise Richards
Let’s hope that another celebrity single mom steps up soon to show the other side!
