To The Cleaners
I was out shopping with a friend recently, and my friend met the lady who used to be her sister-in-law. My friend told me that her brother had asked for a divorce because he felt that his wife did not love him anymore. In the end, my friend's brother was told to pay alimony for the two kids that were teenagers at the time. My friend's ex sister-in-law has remarried, but my friend's brother still has to pay alimony to her. She got their old house, which had a separate apartment in the basement. The son and his girlfriend live rent free on the top floor of the house, while the basement is rented out. The rent goes to the ex wife, who also works, but she married money with her new husband. Yet my friend's brother is only surviving on the equivalent of a little above minimum wage. He wanted out, and had to pay for it. He is still paying for it. I always thought the days of "taking your spouse to the cleaners" were over, with the way society has progressed. Women like my my friend's ex sister-in-law give ex-wives a bad name.
