Divorce Rings
Just read an article on the homepage that talks about divorce rings. Seems an enterprising soul decided that if there are rings commemorating engagements, weddings and anniversaries, there should be one honoring separation and divorce as well. Though the design may be new, I don't think the concept is. I know quite a few women who bought new rings for themselves upon splitting from their spouses. For some, it's about adding something to that left ring finger so it doesn't feel naked; others put it on the right ring finger to symbolize their newfound freedom. Regardless of the reason, the rings serve the same purpose: to mark a new beginning. My best friend bought a cocktail ring made up of her son's birthstone. For her it was a combination of mother's ring, a symbolic reminder of which man would be her top priority now, and also a token of her own self worth. As she said at the time, all women like something that sparkles but we often depend on men to provide them for us. That ring was a symbol of her decision to take matters into her own hands and no longer expect a man to take care of or provide for her.
