Sex with the Ex? Are you kidding me?

Personally, I cannot even fathom having sex with the ex, the thought makes me queasy. But apparently there are divorcing couples out there who continue to have sex with each other after a divorce. I find this quite surprising.

Why get a divorce if you still want to sleep together? Maybe couples who have had an amicable divorce still find each other attractive and use each other physically until they find a new relationship? But it seems more likely that couples who are intimate after divorce are unable to sever the ties between them. It makes it twice as hard to move on if you are still having sexual relations with your ex.

There are so many things to worry about when you are trying to rebuild your life after a divorce. You have to be willing to let the physical side of your relationship go so that you can free your mind and body up for the next chapter in your life. You can still continue to have a platonic relationship with your ex and it is great if you can still be friends. But that is where it should end.

Although it may be comforting and safe to continue relations with your ex, you are preventing yourself from meeting someone new. By holding on to the past, you put your dreams for your new life after divorce on hold too. It is time to let go and move on.

i think that if you don't have sex with the ex that means you are not only refusing him but you don't get any either. everyone is meant for affection and its nice to be touched

I did once while we have been separated. I thought there was hope and I thought he was remorseful. I was wrong. It was just sex to him and it made me feel degraded and I am still married to the man legally, even if he doesn't live here anymore. Now, there is no way I will go down that road. Even if in the 11th hour, he decides he wants to reconcile, he will have to go through more effort than he is capable of to get me back in bed. It would take months of counseling and frankly, I don't think he has the patience to wait that long, but that is what it would take for me to even consider it.

YUK!! Sorry folks, but even after 24 years with the same person...probably because of what she did...I wouldn't even touch her to shake hands and am repulsed if she tries to touch me. I am glad I didn't do this...it was much easier to move on with my life.

If my ex wouldn't have moved away I know that this would be us....and it wouldn't be healthy for either of us. He's having a hard enough time dealing with everything...the continued sex would just confuse things. BUT, on the same hand, we really did love each other and I think both secretly hope that someday he'll get himself figured out enough so that we can be reunited. Like the other poster...his parents and his mental health issues and lack of coping abilities were more the reason than a lack of love and attraction.

No it happens and I did it. My ex and I divorced then a few months later started seeing each other again. Since you have been down that road before it is easy to start again. I will say that we both really loved and still love each other. I will also say that his mother is one of the reasons our marriage did not work and the other is that he is bipolar disorder. We have been divorced 3 years and both have finally moved on but still consider each other friends. I guess it depends on why you divorced. I know it was hard for me to go thru and I truly did love him. Would I try to resume a relationship with him now. No. It took a shile even after the divorce for me to get it into my hard head that it would never work unless we moved a million miles from his mother and he stayed on meds.
