Women
who were children of divorce are less likely to have children of their own than
women from stable families. This is part of a recent study that evaluated the
effects on families in countries that allow divorce against those countries
that don't allow divorce.
Researchers
found that in countries with divorce, women are 11% less likely to marry. If they do marry, it's usually much later in
life. They are, however, more likely to get good paying jobs. This is because,
with the option of divorce, they can't depend on men to take care of them.
Some
researchers look at this data as good news. It shows that women are taking
advantage of better opportunities, and that children are no longer trapped in
abusive households. Others see it as the end of stable family life. Either way,
as more countries pass divorce laws, the role of the family is changing.
Families need to adapt and face the challenges, or succumb to the rising
statistics of divorce.
