What Support Group Taught Me...

Forgive and Forget. This will be the toughest, but it is the most healing. In order to get on with your new life and live it to the fullest, you must be willing to let go of the past and all the hurt feelings. It will take time to completely release it, but by saying “I forgive you” you are taking the first step toward that healing process. Writing in a journal or talking to someone you can trust will often help you to deal with moving forward. For many, forgiveness lightens the load and makes them feel that they are in control of their life for the first time.

If something comes up that is tenuous, then try talking it out on the phone. It is easier to say “I have to go” and hang up in order to calm down before saying something regrettable. In person, it is harder to control your emotions and get away. In addition, keeping your distance can help those old wounds to heal quicker and lead you to forgiveness.
