The once-divorced Princess Margarita of Bourbon-Parma is
getting hitched again, this time to Dutch lawyer Tjalling Ten Cate, in May.
It’s a royal love story filled with intrigue and controversy -- perfect fodder for a BBC docu-drama. For one thing, Margarita, the 35-year-old niece of Queen Beatrix
of the Netherlands, is pregnant.
Also, her first marriage to Edwin Karel Willem de Roy van
Zuydewijn was plagued with problems from the start, mainly because of Queen
Beatrix’s disapproval of the union. The marriage ended bitterly in November
2006.
Margarita and Edwin
claimed that their private phone line was tapped, by joint consent of the Royal
family and the Dutch Secret Service. Also that there had been secretive
meddling in Edwin’s company.
A fairytale ending to this story? Probably not, but it will
be interesting to see where it goes from here.
