Cast of characters - how to read my posts 1A

So here is what's what and who' who in the jhs zoo. I'll update whenever a new entry is needed.

Why am I doing this? Well...

I find every time I write something about what's happening in my life, I end up talking about people. And for you, the reader of those lovely posts, that involves explaining a bit (once again) who these folks are. And that's a lot of wasted words if you already know. And generally an inadequate number of words if you don't.

Plus, being an engineer geek, I love acronyms; again less keystrokes, but the reader has to you know what they mean. And I know some newcomers don't always know what is in common use here.

So here's jhs's list of acronyms:

  • BF, GF: Boy Friend or Girl Friend - and we're talking a little more than "just friends" here
  • BTW: By The Way - a convenient introduction to a subject change
  • IMHO: In My Humble Opinion - generally used to introduce an opinion that might not be shared or welcome
  • MHO: My Humble Opinion - generally used after giving such an opinion as a way to excuse yourself (as in "Just MHO")
  • OM, OW: Other Man or Other Woman - the one your lying, cheating, no-good spouse is shagging on the side
  • RW: Real World - posting here is cyber, meeting in a motel room is RW
  • SO: Significant Other - the person you're supposed to be committed to
  • STBX: Soon To Be eX - the person you probably shouldn't have married in the first place
  • WRT: With Regards To - another convenient introduction to a subject change
  • WTF: What The F&k - indicates emphatic incredulity

And jhs's list of people in his posts:

  • DD - "Dinner Date" - a woman I've recently met that I feel a spark with and who seems to have at least a little of that same feeling
  • NF - "New Friend" - a woman I've known as an acquaintance for a few years who became a good friend after STBX moved out
  • OF - "Old Friend" - a woman I've known for a very long time and who is essentially my best friend; the one STBX is convinced I've been having an affair with the whole time we've been married (not!)
  • STBX - Duh! Can we say ... no, let's be at least a little polite here

Finally, last but not least, there's one important place in my life:

  • club - essentially a dive bar much like "Cheers" that deserves a better image
