As a newlywed, you thought you'd go to college and earn your degree a few years down the road when your husband finished his degree. That goal became more distant when you had children and had a mortgage to pay and work to go to. Now you're divorced and thinking about college again. These five simple steps could help you get there:
1. Find out your options.
Talk with the university's or college's financial aid department about your options. You might be surprised by what's available.
2. Get recommendations.Colleges won't solely look at your 20-year-old high school GPA for admissions. They also will consider recommendations, community involvement and previous job experiences.
3. Understand your incentive.Today’s job market is competitive with high-wage jobs requiring a college degree. And that's incentive enough.
4. Invest in your generation. No one in your family has attended college. Be a pioneer. Don't let your trepidations stop you.
5. Don't let age stop you.You are never too old to learn. Take a walk through a college campus. Half of the students are 25 or older.
